Maine Black Bear

Maine has the highest population of black bears in the lower 48 states, with an estimated 35,000 bears.

Our guides begin actively baiting sites 30 days prior to the opening day of the season. They work closely together throughout the season to ensure each hunt is successful. Success rates for harvesting a bear range from 50% to 90% each year, with 90% of hunters sighting a bear during their hunt.

What to Expect During Your Hunt:

If you are trapping a bear, your guide will pick you up in the morning to check your trap site. Bait hunters will be picked up in the early afternoon and transported to their hunting sites. Hunters will stay in the field until dark, after which their guide will pick them up and return them to their cabin. Once back, dinner will be ready, and stories will be shared around the campfire.
